Books
and magazines* should be in good readable condition. Books
with broken spines, missing pages or covers, or that are water
damaged should be discarded. We are unable to use such books.
Please
discard any books that have a mildew odor. Mildew can spread
easily between stored books and is difficult to get rid of.
Old
magazines* that are of special interest (e.g., gardening,
woodworking, cooking, architecture) are great.
We
accept videos, DVDs, books-on-tape, books-on-CD,
audiocassettes and CDs. Homemade video and audiotapes are not
accepted.
We
will accept software CDs if they are not too old.
Jigsaw
puzzles and board games are accepted.
Please
do not leave us old televisions or computer monitors. Please
properly dispose of these items.
*Currently
we are not accepting magazines, we just don't have the room
right now to properly circulate these items.
On-island:
Please
leave your books and other materials to be donated at the
circulation desk in the library. It is extremely helpful if
you can bring your items to the library yourself. However, if
you are unable to do so, we do have volunteers that will be
happy to pick them up. Please call the library at 469-5521 xt
2089 and leave a message asking for a pick-up. A volunteer
will call you back and make arrangements to do so.
Off-island:
If
you are traveling to Nevis and want to hand deliver your books
please be aware that customs regulations prohibit the entry of
these materials by individuals unless duties are paid.
Please inform the customs officer that the books are for the
Gingerland Library. You can then leave them with the
officer and we will be contacted to pick them up at your point
of entry. Please include your contact information so
that we may thank you for your donation.
Through
the generosity of a number of freight forwarders and corporate
donors we are able to accept donations from North America at
the least cost possible to the donating party. Please contact
us to coordinate your shipment - dependant upon
size, there are quite a few options available.
If
you would like to make a donation from any of the European
countries, we are still working on the best way to forward
items to Nevis. If you have any ideas, please share
them with us.
