Following is a list of goals for the next year.  As you can see, they are very aggressive but the Board feels that they are certainly attainable with support.  Please read the list, view the pictures of what we've been able to accomplish already in the year we've been in existence with the support we've been given, then please take a moment and fill out the membership form and make your contribution to this worthwhile project.  Thank you.

Ongoing project
  • To increase the number of volumes as well as better the quality of the existing volumes in the library through both donations and purchases
Immediate goals/projects - within the next 6 months:
  • Build 36 shelving units to more than double the capacity upstairs (adult area) of the library.  Projected cost is $180/unit or $6,480 EC.  We expect to have the shelves in the library before the end of March
  • Signage on the building so that the library can be identified regardless of the direction you are headed on any of the three roads around the library. Quoted at $500 EC.
  • Re-wire the facility. Original wiring (220V) from 1965 needs to be replaced. There are some 110V boxes put in within the past 10 years but the electric has wiped out the computer lab multiple times and we feel it is imperative that the wiring be addressed before any electronic equipment is put into place. We are still waiting on a price from the electrician to do this.
  • Attain 2 circulation desks for the librarian areas both upstairs on the adult floor and downstairs on the juvenile floor.  Both floors are entirely separate, in location, access and age groups serviced, hence the need for two separate desks.
Short term goals/projects - 6 months to 1 year
  • Purchase UPS’s for 8 computers in the Gingerland Library. Average cost is about $300 EC from local sources. We haven’t sourced them outside Nevis as yet as this purchase is a few months away.
  • 6 computers - 3 to get the lab back on track, (the lab is designed for 4 computers) and three for library use. Two upstairs and one downstairs for the accession and check-in/out process.
  • Within 6 months we hope to be in receipt of a grant that will allow us to purchase the above computers (as well as the computers for the main library in Charlestown), network the two locations, and purchase the software whereby we can computerize the library functions for internal use as well as make the library circulation available via the internet.  (Total cost for the project is just under $25 K US).
  • High speed internet for the above.
Long term goals/projects - approx 1 year out
  • Fence the property, place outdoor seating and landscape.
  • Turn the storage room downstairs into an office by leveling the floor, tiling, air conditioning, and wiring. We haven’t begun to get pricing on this as it’s a new solution to an old problem!
